Observing wildlife in the Mediterranean with Cristian Morera

  • 29/April/2026

For Cristian Morera, a photographer participating in MedFoto, photography is a tool to observe, explain and protect the Mediterranean. His connection with the contest began after seeing an announcement by the Club Nàutic l’Escala, but what motivated him to get involved from the very beginning was the desire to present a documentary photograph focused on marine diversity and on the connection between people and the sea.

Present in every edition of the contest, Morera understands MedFoto as an event that invites him to deepen a purpose-driven approach to photography:

“MedFoto is an event that pushes me to look for meaningful images: innovative and inspiring photographs that explain the diversity of the Mediterranean and the relationship between people and the sea.”

This way of photographing is closely linked to his vision of the Mediterranean. For Cristian Morera, the Mediterranean is a rich and fragile ecosystem, but also a meeting place of cultures and lives that must be preserved. He sees it as a collective heritage that needs protection and regards MedFoto as an initiative that promotes this preservation through photography as a tool for awareness and education as a driver of change.

When reflecting on the values that define Mediterranean photography, he highlights respect for the territory, the human perspective, authenticity, dissemination and conservation commitment. According to him, these values guide photography towards rigorous documentation and the ability to generate social transformation.

From his experience as photographer, he recommends MedFoto to all professionals and enthusiasts who wish to give a broader meaning to their work:

“MedFoto gives visibility and allows photography to be placed at the service of Mediterranean conservation. It combines exposure with social impact and is ideal for those who want their work to have a purpose beyond aesthetics.”

Through initiatives such as MedFoto, Cristian Morera advocates for a form of photography that observes wildlife with respect and responsibility, contributing to the appreciation and protection of a sea that is a source of inspiration, but also of collective commitment.
