For many photographers, MedFoto is an opportunity to share their perspective on the Mediterranean. For Marc Casanovas, it has become an essential appointment.
Having participated in every edition, he first discovered MedFoto through social media and recommendations from fellow photographers. From the beginning, he felt compelled to take part, as it focuses on the environment where he creates almost all of his work: the sea.
Over time, his connection with the project has grown stronger. He sees MedFoto as an initiative that gives visibility to the local Mediterranean environment — a mission he strongly identifies with.
Last year’s overall winner, he highlights that recognition is always rewarding, especially when it comes from a jury he admires. However, he believes that success should never be the main goal.
This year, he joins the jury, embracing this new role as both a responsibility and an opportunity to learn from others.
Casanovas emphasizes that Mediterranean photography is about proximity and awareness. Making the sea visible helps people appreciate and respect an environment that is often out of reach.
He encourages photographers to explore and capture the Mediterranean — a sea full of striking and meaningful images.
