Today, Saturday, July 1st, MedFoto, the world’s first contest focused exclusively on the Mediterranean Sea and its relationship with people, has released the 36 images and the 3 stories finalists of its third edition. This year, the jury, composed of six experts in the field of photography and the marine environment, had to select from nearly 1,400 submitted images. In addition to their quality, the jury members have also evaluated the ethical treatment provided to the photographed plants and animals.

The publication of the images on the contest’s Instagram account, co-organized by Fundació Alive and Club Nàutic l’Escala, marks the beginning of the voting period that will reveal the winner of the Popular Vote award. This prize, consisting of a cash prize of 200 euros, will be given to the image that receives the most “Likes” on the same Instagram account. The popular voting period will remain open from July 1st to July 15th, the day when the winner will be announced.

A joint initiative

MedFoto is an initiative born from the collaboration between Alive Foundation and Club Nàutic l’Escala and aims to highlight the fragile relationship between people and the sea, as well as promote the natural values of the marine environment and encourage a responsible attitude of all agents operating in the marine world and the general public. With the collection and dissemination of the visual material of the contest, the contest aims to contribute to the knowledge and preservation of the marine environment.

In this edition, the event has the support of the City Council of L’Escala, Ports de la Generalitat of Catalonia, La Ballena Alegre campsite, Portalblau Festival and Improcat.
