The winning images of the 4th edition of the MedFoto are…
Today, Saturday 27th July, MedFoto has revealed the winning authors of the fourth edition of the International Mediterranean Photography Competition. Around fifty people attended the announcement, which took place at 11 a.m. in the Multipurpose Hall of the Club Nàutic L’Escala and which could also be followed online through the Zoom platform.
The event ended with the inauguration of the exhibition of the finalist photographs, which can be visited in the sports club’s Board Room until 8 September.
The photograph entitled Black death of baby sea turtles, by Turkish photographer Şebnem Coşkun, is the overall winner of the fourth edition of MedFoto. The image shows the consequences of an oil spill that took place off the Syrian coast in 2021 through the hand of a baby sea turtle victim of the terrible accident.
The gala was attended this year by the President of Club Nàutic L’Escala Narcís Carreras, the President of the Fundació Alive Bernat Garrigós, the Director of Ports de la Generalitat Annabel Moreno and the Mayor of L’Escala Josep Bofill.
The most awaited moment
The main part of the event was the awaited proclamation of the winners of the fourth edition of the International Mediterranean Photography Competition, which included a brief technical assessment of the chosen photographs by Oriol Alamany, a professional photographer specialising in nature conservation and representative of the MedFoto jury.
In addition to the overall winner, who received a cash prize of 1,000 euros, the best images in the different categories were revealed. All of them will receive a cash prize of 300 euros. The Turkish author Şebnem Coşkun won a second prize in the Conservation and Climate Change division with the photograph entitled The rubbish of the world in the Mediterranean.
Santi Viladrich also received two of the awards in the 2024 edition, winning in the Sports and Leisure category with the image Crossing and in the Marine Trades category with the image entitled Salt Harvest.
Bartolomé Santandreu’s composition Dancing in the Moonlight is the winner in the Landscape section and Marc Casanovas’ work Change of Suit in the Underwater section. Pavel Lychkousky is the winner of the Wildlife division with Aphrodite and Shag, by Sara Darnés, won the With Mobile category.
On this occasion, recognition among the photographic stories submitted went to Chicha Calm by Arnau Cloquells, a compilation of images that follows a small group of Menorcan surfers in search of the waves that the Mediterranean offers in a capricious way.
During the gala, the Costa Brava special prize, consisting of a weekend for four people in a bungalow at the La Ballena Alegre campsite, its been awarded to Francesc Arnau for his photograph entitled The Mediterranean sand eel fishing net. Arnau Vergés and the work Storm Cloud has received the special L’Escala award, consisting of a hotel night for two people with lunch or dinner and a visit to the Museu de l’Anxova i de la Sal or bé a l’Alfolí de la Sal – Museu de l’Escala.
The act ended in the meeting room of the Club Nàutic L’Escala, where the exhibition of the 36 images and the three finalist stories of the fourth edition of MedFoto has been inaugurated. The exhibition, entitled The Sea and People, can be visited in this space until 8 September.
