Garlic Skyline

Author: Filippo Carugati
Description: The rocky and volcanic coast of Ustica Island is covered by a plant highly specialized for this dry and extreme habitat, exposed to strong winds and salty, arid soil. Among them, the mediterranean garlic (Allium commutatum) forms large aggregations on the island’s rocky slopes. In this shot, I framed the tall scapes of these plants bearing large spherical umbels of flowers. The photo was taken in August, when most of the flowers were already dried.
