Camargue, “la vie en rose”

Author: Claudine Coupé
Category: Landscape
Description:  Seen from the sky, the Camargue reveals a mosaic of lakes whose colours change with the cycle of salt extraction and the growth of the microscopic algae Dunaliella salina. These landscapes, created over the centuries by man and nature, can evoke abstract paintings and inspire a feeling of profound beauty and harmony.
Yet this fragile ecosystem, emblematic of France’s largest wetland, Títolés, thrives thanks to the sustained collaboration between mankind and nature. Their survival depends on preserving this creative synergy and mitigating the effects of rising sea levels associated with climate change. Since the industrial era, 87% of the world’s wetlands and 48% of those in the Mediterranean basin have been destroyed. What remains is very precious, but we are not yet aware of it. May this beauty surprise us, make us aware of the fragility of life and help us to inhabit the world with poetry!
